Spanish Omelette

One bite of this Spanish omelette and your tastebuds will be transported to Bilbao or Barcelona. Make this delicious and easy tortilla Espanola in your rice cooker!

Ingredients

Ingredients below are for a 5.5-cup cooker. Double the ingredients for a 10-cup cooker.

  • 3 Large eggs
  • 1 Small potato, peeled and chopped
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • Chopped fresh herbs such as parsley, basil, to serve
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Whisk the eggs in a bowl and pour them into the rice cooker inner pot. Stir in the remaining ingredients and season with salt and pepper
  • Choose the [Slow Cook] function and set the timer to 30 minutes. Press Start. 
  • Top with fresh herbs and serve.

WHAT IS A SPANISH OMELETTE?

A Spanish omelette is one of the flagship dishes of Spain. It is an egg omelette made with diced potatoes and onions – commonly served as a tapa (or small plate).

And while this potato omelette tastes amazing hot and fresh, it is frequently served in Spain at room temperature.

We’re using onions in this recipe, however it is commonly served without. Feel free to include or omit the onions as you see fit.

We’re also topping our finished tortilla with chopped flat leaf parsley. Fresh herbs are absolutely delicious with this eggy wonder.

Fun fact: tortilla in European Spanish translates to omelette. Therefore a potato omelette in Spanish is tortilla de patatas. It is also commonly referred to as tortilla Espanola (or Spanish omelette).

Now, we get it – making Spanish tapas in a Japanese rice cooker might not seem like the most natural thing to ever take place in the cooking world. But once you see how easy it is, we think you’ll be excited to try it out for yourself!

HOW TO MAKE A SPANISH OMELETTE IN A RICE COOKER

To make this Spanish tortilla, simply whisk your eggs and pour them into the inner pot of your Tiger multifunctional rice cooker. Then stir in all your remaining ingredients.

When you select the Slow Cook setting for 30 minutes, your work is done. 

Your Spanish omelette will cook to fluffy perfection – and you won’t have to engage in daring acts of culinary gymnastics to flip it halfway through as you would if you were using a frying pan. Win/win!
